Donner STARRYPAD Pro Review
Overview
The STARRYPAD Pro is the mid-size pad controller, adding more pads/controls than the Mini in the same family. According to the official product listing, key selling points include bluetooth midi wireless connection and built-in rechargeable battery for mobile creation. Other design choices include how it handles input and sound generation.
What makes it stand out
- Bluetooth MIDI Wireless Connection – STARRYPAD-PRO adds Bluetooth MIDI for wireless connection to phones, tablets and computers, free of cables. The original STARRYPAD only supports USB-C wired connection.
- Built-in Rechargeable Battery for Mobile Creation – PRO features 2000mAh built-in battery with up to 10-hour standalone runtime, no power drain on your devices. Original model runs on USB bus power and drains phone power easily.
- 8 Infinite Assignable Knobs – PRO comes with 8-piece 360-degree endless assignable knobs to adjust filter, reverb and more. Old version only has 2 knobs plus 2 faders with limited controllable parameters.
- Polyphonic Aftertouch for Expressive Play – PRO supports polyphonic aftertouch; each pad senses pressure independently for nuanced performance. Original unit only offers channel aftertouch with limited expressiveness.
- Smart One-Click DAW Mapping – PRO includes Cubase script. Play/Stop/Record buttons skip tedious MIDI-Learn for instant DAW transport control. Older model requires manual parameter mapping one by one.
